Bicycle Spoke Wrench Real-World Review & Wheel Adjustment

I keep a basic spoke wrench in the shop for the bikes that come through, and I ran this one through a real wheel-truing job to see how it holds up against the nipples it’s actually sized for.

What It’s For

A spoke wrench is a small, flat tool with slotted openings sized to grip spoke nipples so you can tighten or loosen them without rounding off the edges. It’s the basic tool behind truing a wheel — getting it spinning straight instead of wobbling side to side.

Real-World Test

I used it to true up a wheel with a noticeable wobble, spinning it slowly and adjusting spokes a quarter turn at a time while watching the rim against a fixed reference point. A good spoke wrench needs to grip cleanly on the first try, every time — slipping off a nipple mid-adjustment is how you strip one.

Final Verdict

For the price, it’s a straightforward, no-frills tool that does the one job it’s built for. Watch the full video below for the wheel-truing process from start to finish.
